Birth Centenary Celebration of Architect M.N.Sharma

The Birth Centenary of Chandigarh's esteemed 1st Chief Architect, M N Sharma, was celebrated with grandeur at the Auditorium of Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh. The memorial lecture held on this auspicious occasion was delivered by the renowned architect, planner, and infrastructure expert, Shri Charanjit Singh Shah, popularly known as the 'Airport King' for his remarkable contributions to the field.

Shri Charanjit Singh Shah, who boasts an illustrious career spanning five decades, captivated the audience with his insightful lecture on sustainable architecture, mirroring the pioneering work of the late M N Sharma. The event was attended by hundreds of students, distinguished architects from the city, and people from various domains.

During the commemoration ceremony, the M N Sharma Architectural Society presented the prestigious M N Sharma Scholarship 2022, which amounted to Rs. 20,000, to Ms. Shubhangi Jindal of Chandigarh College of Architecture. This scholarship serves to recognize and encourage young talents pursuing excellence in the field of architecture.

As a token of appreciation for their significant contributions to the architectural community, Architect S D Sharma and Prof. S S Bhatti were honored by the Smart Habitat Foundation headed by Ar.Charajit Singh Shah

The highlight of the Centenary year celebration was the captivating exhibition showcasing the artistic brilliance of Ar. M N Sharma. The exhibition which includes his mesmerizing paintings, collages, and sculptures, was inaugurated by the esteemed Home Secretary (Chandigarh UT), Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, and Finance Secretary (Chandigarh UT), Shri Namdevrao Zade. This exhibition curated by Bheem Malhotra and Deepika Gandhi is currently open to the public on the ground level of the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh and will continue till 13th August.

The event provided a platform to celebrate the life and contributions of the visionary architect M N Sharma, while also inspiring the present and future generations of architects to carry forward his legacy of excellence in architecture, urban planning, and sustainable practices.
