The M N Sharma Architectural Society in Chandigarh, in partnership with the Department of English & Cultural Studies and the Department of History at Panjab University, cordially invites you to attend a presentation by Louis-Cyprien Rials titled "Baghdad as seen from Chandigarh: the thwarted architecture of dream cities." The event will take place on Thursday, 7th November 2024, at 02:30 PM in the Mulk Raj Anand Auditorium, Arts Block I, Panjab University.
Originally from Paris, Louis-Cyprien Rials currently resides and works in Baghdad. He has journeyed through and resided in conflict zones, radioactive regions, and restricted areas. Rials employs video, photography, and sculptural installations to depict the regions marked by violence.
The Baghdad Gymnasium, a sports complex in Baghdad, Iraq, documented by Rials, was designed by Le Corbusier in 1956 under King Faisal II's commission with the intention of potentially hosting the 1960 Summer Olympics.
